Does vinyl fence crack in Ontario winters?
Quality vinyl is engineered for cold climates and flexes instead of shattering. The bigger winter risk is cheap installation, posts that heave because they were not set below the frost line. That is an installation problem, not a material problem.
Is vinyl worth the extra cost over wood?
If you plan to stay in your home more than a few years, usually yes. Vinyl costs more up front but has essentially zero maintenance cost, while wood needs washing or staining every few years.
