Wood privacy fences
A solid wood fence is the quickest way to make an overlooked backyard feel private. We build board-on-board and solid-panel fences in cedar or pressure-treated lumber, with every post set below the frost line so the fence is still standing straight years from now.
Cedar costs more and weathers to a soft silver-grey if you leave it alone. Pressure-treated costs less and takes stain well. Either one works, and the posts underneath matter more than the boards on top. Around here that’s roughly $85 to $120 a foot installed for pressure-treated and $95 to $140 for cedar.

How tall can a privacy fence be in Peterborough?
Most bylaws in the area allow backyard fences up to about 6 feet, with tighter rules on corner lots that face a street. We check the rules for your property at the estimate, so nothing surprises you later.
Cedar or pressure-treated: which should I pick?
Cedar costs more and looks good untouched, weathering to grey. Pressure-treated costs less and holds stain well. Both want a wash or stain every 2 to 4 years to look their best through our freeze-thaw cycles, and both last 15 to 25 years when the posts are set right.
How long will a wood fence last here?
Built properly, with posts below the frost line, a cedar or pressure-treated fence typically lasts 15 to 25 years in our climate. Posts are what fail first on cheap jobs, and they are the part we never skimp on.
